Florida continues to rank high among states that experience a significantly high amount of bicycle related accidents, injuries and fatalities. Many people are unaware that Florida law provides certain requirements and provides restrictions upon all bicyclists while riding, whether its on the roadways or on trails. Section 316.2065, Florida Statutes, titled "Bicycle Regulations", sets forth those requirements and restrictions. We have listed just a few of the laws for quick reference:

• Any person operating a bicycle upon a one-way highway with two or more marked traffic lanes is permitted to ride as near the left-hand curb or edge of such roadway as practicable;
• Any person operating a bicycle shall keep at least one hand upon the handlebars: and
• Every bicycle in use between sunset and sunrise shall be equipped with a lamp on the front exhibiting a white light visible from a distance of at least 500 feet to the front and a lamp and reflector on the rear each exhibiting a red light visible from a distance of 600 feet to the rear.
